HOW TO APPLY FOR A BUILDING PERMIT

The Permits and Inspection Division issues building permits for the rural part of Douglas County outside the jurisdictions of Omaha, Elkhorn, Waterloo, and Valley (see map). Through an interlocal agreement, permits are issued the City of Bennington. Residents of Bennington must contact the Bennington City Clerk (238-2375, 15512 Warehouse St.) before applying for a building permit with this office.

1. Application forms can be obtained at the Permits and Inspection Division. Our office is located at 3015 Menke Circle, north of Maple at 93rd, left turn on Binney Street and around curve to Menke Circle. Office hours 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. To more efficiently serve you, please call our office at 444-7189 to schedule an appointment Application forms can also be printed from this site and reviewed for the information required.

We are not able to accept applications by fax or as an e-mail attachment because supporting documentation is required with most applications. You can, however, ask questions by e-mail.

Applications for building permits on property located in the floodplain will also require a development permit. Floodplain Development permit forms can also be printed from this site and reviewed for the information required.

2. Some applications can be processed at the time the application is obtained at our office. Applications for dwellings require varying amounts of review time and you will be given an approximate completion time for the review when application is made to our office. A copy of the well and septic permits (if applicable) issued by the Douglas County Health Department must accompany a dwelling application. Residents of Bennington must provide verification from the City Clerk.

3. Fee schedule for building permits is also available at this site for your review.

4. Upon completion of application and payment of appropriate fee, a building permit and receipt for fee payment will be given to applicant. For dwellings, a copy of the plans to be maintained at the site will also be returned to the applicant.

5. Please call 444-7189 or e-mail our office with any questions regarding the issuance of building permits.
